Webster's New World Dictionary and Thesaurus has more entries than any dictionary software with over 500,000 words and is the ‘TopTenREVIEWS Bronze Award” winner. This software makes finding the word you’re looking for effortless—just install the program and you’re good to go.

This dictionary doesn’t have as many features as some of the other programs. You can’t search by definition or listen to audio pronunciations. Nevertheless, if you just want a good dictionary and thesaurus that's full of content and easy to use, this is the product for you.

Feature Set:  

This simple program has all of the features the average user needs. You won’t be able to search for words that rhyme, homophones or convert units, but you can effortlessly find definitions and synonyms.

Entries include phonetic symbols, parts of speech, derivations and conjugations—some even have illustrations.

The software also has a pronunciation guide so you can learn the sounds all of the symbols represent.

Ease of Use:  

This is simple program to use regardless of your computer knowledge. The program searches for words fast and displays both the dictionary and thesaurus entries at the same time. You will have to maximize the window manually—it doesn’t automatically come into view with a new word search.

Search Capabilities:  

You can search for a word by setting up a hot key. This feature is customizable so you can set up a key that is convenient for you. Or, you can set the program so it will search a word merely by pointing at it with your mouse. You can also enter the word into the search box or browse an alphabetical listing of words.

Content:  

This reference has over half a million words and 35,000 images. If you learned 100 new words each day, it would take you over 13 ½ years to learn all of the words in this dictionary.

If you don’t need all of the bells and whistles that the higher–ranked products include, but still want a quality dictionary that’s easy to use and full of great content, Webster’s New World Dictionary and Thesaurus is an excellent choice and for $7.35 it’s worth every cent. It will help you if you come across a word you don’t understand or if you’re looking for just the right word for an email or paper.
