Random House Webster’s College Dictionary is a basic dictionary that’s very easy to use. This software has all of the fundamental parts of a dictionary including the parts of speech, phonetic symbols, origins and derivatives. It’s compatible with word processing programs—simply select the word and drag it to the icon.
This program doesn’t include a thesaurus with synonyms and antonyms, illustrations, audio pronunciations and some of the other more advanced features that the higher–ranking programs have.
This dictionary includes phonetic symbols and an explanation of the symbols, parts of speech, origins, derivations and conjugations.
Random house is compatible with other programs like Word and Outlook so you can easily find definitions to unknown words. You can change the preferences of the program to fit your needs and computing practices.
Ease of Use:
Random House Webster’s College Dictionary doesn’t require much of a learning curve. Once the program is installed, you can bring up the viewing window and immediately start using the dictionary.
Search Capabilities:
The program has a small icon that always appears on top of the other open windows. You can select a word in the application in which you’re working and drag it to the icon and you’ll instantly have a definition.
You can also type a word into the searchbox or look through the alphabetical listing.
Content:
This dictionary software has over 200,000 entries—it’s unlikely you’ll come across a word that isn’t in the dictionary.
